Pangender
Definiton
Disclaimer: People can experience identities in different ways. As such, people can identify with a label without exactly matching the definition because identities are fluid.
Pangender is a term used by people who experience many or all gender identities available within their culture and life experiences. Pangender only refers to a person's gender, so pangender people can be any sexuality or romantic orientation. Pangender people can use any pronouns they like or no pronouns, since pronouns don't equate gender. Pangender people can present in any way they like; they do not have to present in a specific way to be pangender.
Common pangender experiences include identifying as one all-encompassing identity (maxigender) and fluctuating between many separate identities and/or intensities of them over time (in which case they might also identify as genderfluid, genderflux, or fluidflux). Other pangender experiences can include identifying as the entire gender spectrum they can be of any given spectrum(s), having an immense and/or uncountable number of genders, identifying as infinite genders, having a gender experience that goes beyond known genders (ultigender), identifying as polygender and additional genders, and/or having a very expansive and unspecific gender. (All of these experiences are limited by a pangender person's culture and life experiences.) A pangender person may or may not also identify as transgender, nonbinary, and/or multigender for various reasons.
While pangender people might identify as many, countless, or even infinite genders, it is important to note that this does not include culturally-specific, neurotype-specific, or otherwise exclusive genders if they are not part of one's own culture and life experience.
Flag History and Meaning
The pangender pride flag was created by Cari Rez Lobo (Tumblr user pangendering) on January 28, 2015.
Each color of the pangender flag has its own meaning:
- Yellow: all genders not related to male or female
- Light red: the transition to genders related to female and male
- Light pink: the transition to and combination of male and female
- White: the blend of all genders, broad inclusion
The colors of the pangender flag are all light and bright to represent the multiplicity of genders. This comes from white light being made of all colors, which is similar to how pangender can include all genders.
